Decker always thought of herself as a country singer, but the album's marketing and production was targeted at an audience that was more popular. Decker battled against the label for more control over her music following two previous singles failed. The album she released next, Boys in the Summer is more country-oriented. Decker released her second album under two different titles: Sweet American Dreams or Daughter of a Gypsy. Mercury decided to put it back on the shelf when the first three singles fell in the country charts. Decker then was let out of the contract.
